He is a specialist in Internal Medicine, with a special interest in the treatment and management of diabetes, hypertension, GI tract diseases, diseases of joints and muscles, diseases of glands, hepatitis B & C with their related complications, obesity, and other metabolic diseases. In his clinic, there are special facilities available for weight reduction counseling and psychological support counseling. He has more than 20 years of experience.

He has been a member and then a fellow of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan since 2005 & 2007, respectively. He has been a member of the Royal College of Physicians since 2013. He has taught undergraduates since 2007 and has been the supervisor for FCPS medicine since 2015.

In the recent epidemic of COVID-19, he was among the core Medical team in the management and strategic planning for the said menace in Faisalabad. 

Professor Owais has correlated many national journals regarding liver cirrhosis, organophosphorus poisoning, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, vitamin D deficiency and replacement, nutritional therapy in hyperglycemia in pregnancy, EVBL for secondary prevention of variceal bleeding in cirrhotic, dexamethasone vs methylprednisolone among Covid 19 pneumonia, Depression association with hepatitis C infection, dietary fiber and there blood glucose lowering effects, the need of dedicated Emergency services in teaching hospitals.  

His coordination regarding international journals includes blood lipid profiles in non-obese patients with untreated hypertension. It recently identified diabetes mellitus, the efficacy of prazosin given alone or combined for treating hypertension, and psychological and neurologic complications after kidney transplantation.

He has 20 national and international publications.

He has also been the author of many books. Co-author of Care of Feet in Diabetes. Clerkship book of medicine.

Recently, he has been on the editorial team of the book ‘Hyperglycaemia in Pregnancy’. He is the main lead in five chapters of this book (the book is available internationally on Amazon).

 He is one of the core members of the curriculum development team for undergraduates in 2021 and postgraduates for the MD medicine program at Faisalabad Medical University in 2021.

He has been the coordinator of many workshops and the organizer of many educational events and conferences at the international level during his tenure.
